Moses received 10 commandments on Mount Sinai,
Exodus 20. The people told Aaron to make them a god, (the making of the golden calf), Exodus 32. Moses set up the Court of the Tabernacle on the 1st day of 1st month / 2ndyear Exodus 40:16 The first census was taken, a year and two months after leaving Egypt. Numbers chapter 1 Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu offer up profane fire before the LORD, Leviticus 10:1-3 the people now traveled and camped within their tribes, Numbers 10:11. |

Camp Notes
The ordered account of the journeys listed in Numbers chapter 33, lists 42 locations. This is counting the Egyptian city of Rameses and the final site before crossing the Jorden river. Omitting these two sites gives us the number 40. Theologians over the years like the symbolism of numbers as does God also like certain numbers. Both number 40 & 42 are found many times in scriptures, a quick account is given below.
the number 42- In the record of the genealogy given in Matthew's gospel account, there are 42 generation from Adam to Christ, divided into 3 groups of 14.
- In Revelations chapter eleven, the two witness prophesy in the streets of Jerusalem for 42 months, Revelation 11:3
- Durring the flood on the earth it rained for 40 days and 40 nights.
- Moses was on Mount Sinai (twice) speaking with God, each time for 40 days.
- The 12 spies were sent out to spy out the promise land for 40 days.
- Jesus fasted for 40 days and was later tempted by the devil.
- There were 40 days between Jesus' Resurction and His ascension.
I have used the heading of "42 plus campsites", for there are other campsites or names of campsites mentioned throughout the scriptures that are not included in the Numbers chapter 33 account and we should not simply ignore these, here are a few explanation for this:
- Names were a way of marking that place as to what took place, (how God tested the people and the lesson learned) there and therefore one site could have had multiple names.
- If a certain site was stayed at twice within the 40 years of wandering in the desert, it may have only been recorded one in the Numbers chapter 33 account.
- Last of all, if no noted events happened at that site, (no lessons learned), it may have been omitted from the Numbers 33 chapter account, to keep the numbers to reflect the symbolic numbers of 42 and 40.
