Matthew 13:44
Hidden treasure in field
Matthew 13:45-46
Pearl of great price
Matthew 13:52
New and Old Treasures.
44Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which when a man has found it, he hides it, and for the joy of it goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.
MKJV
45Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls; 46who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
MKJV
52Then He said to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed to the kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out things new and old out of his treasure.
MKJV
Insights
  • The kingdom must be acquired justly, it cannot be stolen. If the kingdom could hypothetically be stolen, it would no longer be God's kingdom, for the kingdom operates on righteousness and must be aquired righteously.
  • You must seek the kingdom! This takes into account our free will, (we only seek what we desire). If we do not desire the kingdom it will not come to us.
  • So is the kingdom, that every man needs to be instructed in the wisdom and knowledge of the treasures, (the various gifts), from both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
  • In both the above parables, the man when he finds his treasure, goes and sells all that he has. This is not necessary talking of trading money to reach a certain set price. I see it as when Jesus said to the rich man, go and sell whatever you have and follow Me, Mark 10:17. When we find God's kingdom, we realize that His kingdom will supply all of our needs.
