Matthew 7:3-5 Luke 6:41-42
3And why do you look on the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not consider the beam that is in your own eye? 4Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull the splinter out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First cast the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to cast the splinter out of your brother's eye.

41And why do you look at the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not see the beam that is in your own eye? 42Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the splinter in your eye, when you yourself do not see the beam that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First cast out the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to pull out the splinter that is in your brother's eye.

  • This saying was preceded by Jesus talking about judging others. The parable is not necessarily saying that one sin is greater, but it is addressing the case that we all seem to be blinded to our personal failings while we can see other shortcomings very well. First, we need to get right with God and before we attempt to help others.
