Matthew 7:3-5 Luke 6:41-42
3And why do you look on the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not consider the beam that is in your own eye? 4Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull the splinter out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First cast the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to cast the splinter out of your brother's eye.

41And why do you look at the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not see the beam that is in your own eye? 42Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the splinter in your eye, when you yourself do not see the beam that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First cast out the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to pull out the splinter that is in your brother's eye.

  • Removing first the log from your eye, does not imply that your sin is so much greater than your brothers. Rather the meaning is that your own perception of your brothers faults are clouded by your own faults and they first need to be corrected and then you will see clearly and will be able to help your brother.
