31And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, He
came to the Sea of Galilee, in the midst of the borders of the Decapolis.
32And they brought a deaf one to Him, hardly speaking. And
they begged Him to put His hand on him.
33And He took him aside from the crowd and put His fingers
into his ears. And He spat and touched his tongue.
34And looking up to Heaven, He sighed and said to him,
Ephphatha! (that is, Be opened!)
35And instantly his ears were opened and the bond of his
tongue was loosened, and he spoke plainly.
36And He commanded them, that they should tell no one. But
the more He commanded them, so much the more they proclaimed it.
37And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, He has
done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.

- In Decapolis they brought to Him a deaf man, and they begged Jesus to put His hands on him.
Then Jesus took him aside, put His fingers in the man's ears, spat and touched his lounge.
Loooked up to heaven He sighed and said; Ephphatha! (that is, Be opened!)
- After the deaf man was healed they were astonished, (makes you wonder what they expected,
perhaps partial healing over a long time), something the carnal mind could grasp. When God does
a supernatural healing, you are completely healed.
We can have a hardened heart towards the supernatural
and not even realize it.
- In this healing Jesus used means that we cannot current explain right now. But that also tells
us that there are many ways that God has provided for us to be healed.
- Jesus then told the man to tell no one, but the more He commanded it the more they publicized it.
One possible reason for this is that the man most-likely was a gentile and Jesus was not looking
for a public following of gentiles.
