1And as He went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees
to eat bread on the Sabbath day, it happened that they watched Him.
2And, behold, there was a certain man before Him which had the dropsy.
3And answering, Jesus spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees,
saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?
4And they were silent. And taking him, He healed him and
let him go.
5And He answered them, saying, Which
of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit and will not immediately pull him
out on the Sabbath day?
6And they could not answer Him again as to these things.
MKJV |
- Due to the legalism of the Pharisees in keeping of the law of Moses, they further
hardened their hearts, not rejoicing
over the man's healing.
- Jesus was not pleased with their strict legalism. There is also a similar healing
of a man with a withered hand, were Jesus asked this same
question of the scribes and Pharisees and He looked around on them with anger, being grieved
because of the hardness of their hearts, Mark 3:5.
- The Pharisees most-likely were envious of the great healing miracles Jesus could do and
therefore, they choose to be critical rather that to rejoice with the multitudes.
