Matthew 21:1-11 Mark 11:1-11 Luke 19:29-40 John 12:12-14
1And when they drew near Jerusalem, and had come to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2saying to them, Go into the village across from you. And immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to Me. 3And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, The Lord has need of them, and immediately He will send them. 4All this was done so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, meek, and sitting on an ass, even a colt the foal of an ass. 6And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. 7And they brought the ass, even the colt, and put their clothes on them, and He sat on them. 8And a very great crowd spread their garments in the way. Others cut down branches from the trees and spread them in the way. 9And the crowds who went before, and those who followed, cried out, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! 10And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11And the crowd said, This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth of Galilee.

1And when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent out two of His disciples. 2And He said to them, Go into the village over across from you. And as soon as you have entered into it, you will find a colt tied, on which no one of men has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3And if anyone says to you, Why do you do this? Say that the Lord has need of him, and immediately he will send him here. 4And they went, and they found the colt tied by the door outside, in a place where two ways met. And they untied him. 5And certain of those who stood there said to them, What are you doing, untying the colt? 6And they said to them even as Jesus had commanded. And they let them go. 7And they brought the colt to Jesus, and they threw their garments on it. And He sat on it. 8And many spread their garments in the way, and others cut down branches off the trees and scattered them in the way. 9And those going before, and those following, cried out, saying, Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! 10Blessed is the kingdom of our father David, who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! 11And Jesus entered into Jerusalem and into the temple. And when He had looked around on all things, the hour already being late, He went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

29And it happened as He drew near Bethphage and Bethany, toward the mount called Mount of Olives, He sent two of the disciples, 30saying, Go into the village across from you, and having entered, you will find a colt tied up, on which no one of men has yet sat. Untie it and bring it. 31And if anyone asks you, Why are you untying it? You will say this to him, Because the Lord has need of it. 32And going, those who were sent found as He had said to them. 33And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, Why are you untying the colt? 34And they said, The Lord has need of him. 35And they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their garments on the colt. And they set Jesus on it. 36And as He went, they spread their clothes in the way. 37And when He had come near, even now at the descent of the Mount of Olives, all the multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen, 38saying, Blessed is the King coming in the name of the Lord! Peace in Heaven and glory in the highest! 39And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples. 40And He answered and said to them, I tell you that if these should be silent, the stones would cry out.

12On the next day, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, a great crowd who had come to the Feast 13took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him. And they cried, Hosanna! "Blessed is the King of Israel who comes in the name of the Lord! 14And finding an ass colt, Jesus sat on it; as it is written, 15Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King comes sitting on the foal of an ass.

  • Riding on a donkey, a lowly animal, in comparison to a great white horse, as He will appear on in the book of Revelations. Jesus a humble servant, He came to serve. But, He will return as said in Revelations on a great white horse to reign.
  • In three of the gospels it says that the people cried out, "Hosanna", this means: "save us now". The people were still looking to make Jesus a earthly king, John 6:15.
