Matthew 24:1-2 Mark 13:1-2 Luke 21:5-6 John 2:18-21
1And Jesus went out and departed from the temple. And His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2And Jesus said to them, Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, There shall not be left here one stone on another that shall not be thrown down.
MKJV
1And as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, Master, see! What stones and what buildings! 2And answering Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? There shall not be one stone left on another that shall not be thrown down.
MKJV
5And as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts, He said, 6As to these things which you see, days will come in which there shall not be left a stone on a stone, which shall not be thrown down.
MKJV
18Then the Jews answered and said to Him, What sign do you show us, since you do these things? 19Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. 20Then the Jews said, This temple was forty-six years building, and will you rear it up in three days? 21But He spoke of the temple of His body.

  • Jesus did not say He would destroy the temple, however He knew that one day it would be destroyed.
  • The temple, "not made by hands", was His own body, that He was referring to. If we are of Christ, we share in His resurrection, and our bodies are also the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in us, 1st Corinthians 3:16.
