Acts 3:1-10
1And on the same day Peter and John went up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour, [3 pm.]. 2And a certain man, who was lame from his mother's womb, was being carried. And they laid him daily at that temple gate which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered into the temple. 3Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. 4And fastening his eyes on him, Peter with John said, Look on us! 5And he paid heed to them, expecting to receive something from them. 6But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk! 7And taking him by the right hand, he lifted him up. And immediately his feet and ankle-bones received strength. 8And leaping up, he stood and walked and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God. 9And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10And they recognized him, that it was him who sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11And as the lame one who was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. 12And seeing this, Peter answered the people, Men, Israelites, why do you marvel at this? Or why do you stare at us, as though we had made this man to walk by our own power or holiness? 13The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His son Jesus, whom you delivered up, denying Him in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to let Him go. 14But you denied the Holy and Just One and desired a murderer to be given to you. 15And you killed the Prince of Life, whom God has raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. 16And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, this one whom you see and know, His name made firm. And the faith which came through Him has given him this perfect soundness before you.

  • He was lame from birth, there is hope for every one of us. This man had never walked in his life, the scripture says he leaped up and began walking. He did not have to learn to walk or first crawl. God is a miracle working God, expect miracles!
  • The man who was lame from his mother's womb was carried to the temple gate daily so that he could beg for alms. Here we see that the people that carried him and those around him could not heal him, this relates to our churches of today.
  • When Peter said to the man: "Look on us!". The man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something. Whether it be in the physical in this dark world or in the spiritual realm, we need to expect before we receive.
  • Peter and John had faith to perform this healing and the man also gladly received it when the healing was made known and began to praise God. However the people were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him, we need to expect God's Word to work and not be surprised when it does. For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power, 1st Corinthans 4:20.
  • Peter spoke: "In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!" This is a pretty bold statement and perhaps there is a degree of risk to it too, after all Peter would look pretty foolish if nothing happened. There is power within the Word of God and in the name of Jesus, however we need to speak forth that power. We need to speak the Word and share the good news of with others and not be ashamed of it; "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek, Romans 1:16.
