Matthew 8:2-4 Mark 1:40-42 Luke 5:12-15
2And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, Lord, if You will, You can make me clean. 3And Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, I will; be clean! And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4And Jesus said to him, See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest. And offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

40And a leper came to Him, begging Him and kneeling down to Him, and saying to Him, If You will, You can make me clean. 41And Jesus, moved with compassion, put out His hand and touched him, and said to him, I will; be clean! 42And He having spoken, the leprosy instantly departed from him and he was cleansed.
MKJV
12And it happened, as He was in a certain city, behold, a man full of leprosy! And seeing Jesus, he fell on his face and begged Him, saying, Lord, if You will, You can cleanse me. 13And stretching out the hand, He touched him, saying, I will! Be clean! And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14And He commanded him, Tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. 15But the word about Him spread even more. And great crowds were coming to hear, and to be healed from their infirmities by Him.

Insights
  • This man was seeking his healing and it seems to me he was a religious man. For he knew who to come to. He came to Jesus and then he worshiped Him. He knew of the Man that could make him whole, however the leper questioned if Jesus would do it for him. This is the very same question that most people have in church today.
  • The man did not realize that it is always God's will to heal, but regardless of what the leper thought, he still asked Jesus if He would heal him. We always need to ask, for we have not because we ask not, James 4:2.
  • Jesus being filled with compassion, the first Words He said was, "I will." All of the promises in Him are yes and amen, 2nd Corinthians 1:20. The man simply did not know the truth, the good news of the gospel. This also relates to our churches today.
  • Jesus then spoke heal over the man, He said, "be clean." Few Words spoken with authority is all that is required. It's not the amount of words spoken, but rather the authority in which the Words are spoken.
