23And when Jesus came into the ruler's house and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, 24He said to them, Go back, for the little girl is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed Him to scorn. 25But when the people were put out, He went in and took her by the hand, and the little girl arose. 26And this report went out into all that land.

22And, behold, one of the synagogue rulers came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet. 23And he begged Him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come, lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed, and she shall live. 24And Jesus went with him. And many people followed Him and thronged Him. 35While He still spoke, they came from the synagogue ruler's house, saying, Your daughter is dead; why do you still trouble the Teacher? 36But hearing the word spoken, Jesus said to the synagogue ruler, Do not be afraid, only believe. 37And He allowed no one to follow Him, except Peter and James and John, the brother of James. 38And He came to the synagogue ruler's and saw a tumult, and weeping and much wailing. 39And going in He said to them, Why do you make a tumult and weep? The girl is not dead, but sleeps. 40And they laughed at Him. But when He had put them all out, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those with Him, and went in where the child was lying. 41And He took the child's hand and said to her, Talitha koumi; (which interpreted is, Little girl, I say to you, Arise!) 42And instantly the little girl arose and walked (for she was twelve years old ). And they were astonished with a great astonishment. 43And He strictly warned them that no one should know this. And He said to give her something to eat.

49He was still speaking when someone came from the synagogue-ruler, saying to him, Your daughter is dead, do not trouble the Teacher. 50But when Jesus heard, He answered Him, saying, Do not fear, only believe and she shall be healed. 51And coming into the house, He allowed no one to go in, except Peter and James and John, and the father and the mother of the girl. 52And all were weeping and bewailing her. But He said, Do not weep; she has not died, but sleeps. 53And they ridiculed, knowing that she was dead. 54And He put them all out. And He took her by the hand and called, saying, Little girl, arise! 55And her spirit came again, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that food be given her to eat. 56And her parents were astonished. But He charged them to tell no one the thing that happened.

  • Jairus came to Jesus, in faith and expecting, he bowed down in worship, knowing that Jesus was able to heal his daughter. Jairus knew who to come to and he also worshiped the Lord, all so far going well.
  • Jesus began to go with Jairus to his house, but the crowd that followed with Him was thronging Him. It was controlled chaos, soon to be interrupted by the woman with the issue of blood. Jesus handled both situations well, we must be ready in season and out of season. Jesus was doing the Father's work, we must preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; 2nd Timothy 4:2
  • When the bad report was delivered, (your daughter is dead). Jesus replied to Jairus, Do not be afraid; only believe. Fear can overcome one with grief and even start directing their thoughts and actions. In the book of Job, Job says: For the thing which I fear cometh upon me, And that which I am afraid of cometh unto me, Job 3:25. When we get into fear we invite thoughts of the enemy to direct our mind and we start to expect and accept negative thoughts.
  • Jesus put the people of unbelief outside, when He had put them all outside. Then the miracle was able to happen. Doubt will always negate faith.
  • Jesus then with a Word raise the girl from her death bed, one Word is all it takes spoken in faith.
  • Jairus, could simply have asked Jesus, (to speak a word), such as the centurion did in Matthew 8:5, Luke 7:1. Jesus / The Holy Spirit does not necessary bring you up to His level of pure faith but rather meets you at your level of faith.
