Matthew 9:20-22 Mark 5:25-34 Luke 8:43-48
20And behold, a woman, who had a flow of blood for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the hem of His garment. 21For she said within herself, If only I shall touch His robe, I will be whole. 22But turning and seeing her, Jesus said, Daughter, be comforted; your faith has saved you. And the woman was saved from that hour.
25And a certain woman who had an issue of blood twelve years, 26and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and had not been bettered any, but rather came to worse, 27having heard about Jesus, she came in the press behind and touched His garment. 28For she said, If I may but touch only His clothes, I will be cured. 29And instantly the fountain of her blood dried up. And she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. 30And knowing instantly within Himself that power had gone out of Him, Jesus turned Himself around in the press and said, Who touched My clothes? 31And His disciples said to Him, You see the crowd pressing on You, and do You say, Who touched Me? 32And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done in her, came and fell down before Him and told Him all the truth. 34And He said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be whole from your plague.
43And a woman who had a flow of blood twelve years (who had spent all her living on physicians, and could not be healed by any) 44came behind Him and touched the border of His garment. And instantly her flow of blood was staunched. 45And Jesus said, Who touched Me? And all having denied, Peter and those with Him said, Master, the crowd presses and jostles You, and You say, Who touched Me? 46And Jesus said, Someone has touched Me, for I know that power has gone out of Me. 47And seeing that she was not hidden, the woman came trembling. And falling down before Him, she declared to Him before all the people why she had touched Him, and how she was instantly healed. 48And He said to her, Daughter, be comforted. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
  • The word faith used by all of the Gospel writers is strongs number [4102]. This word can be defined as: assurance belief, believe, faith or fidelity. It is by our belief in Christ's ability, power and willingness to heal, that we are healed.
  • The word peace in Mark's and Luke's account is strongs number [1515]. This word can also be defined as: (to join): peace, quietness or rest. (we need to rest and remain in Him, to retain our healing).
  • In-order to touch the hem of His garment she had to get close to Jesus, it appears that she was holding nothing back. We cannot always hold things in reserve and expect our blessing.
  • She expected her healing: For many people were thronging Jesus in the crowd, (not everyone who touched Jesus was healed).
  • It took great effort on her part: She came up to Jesus, most likely crawling and saw her way through a vast multitude of people.
  • It took a great risk on her part: Having an issue of blood, she was considered 'unclean', and was to stay a distance away. The outcome could have been being stoned to death.
  • She could not be hidden: At times we want to receive our miracle in private. (We need to tell others what Jesus has done for us) and tell others of our testimony.
  • At times, our healing methods or use of physicians cannot cure, but only prove to make things worse, "our people perish for lack of knowledge", Hosea 4:6.
