20And behold, a woman, who had a flow of blood for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the hem of His garment. 21For she said within herself, If only I shall touch His robe, I will be whole. 22But turning and seeing her, Jesus said, Daughter, be comforted; your faith has saved you. And the woman was saved from that hour.

 25And a certain woman who had an issue of blood twelve years, 26and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and had not been bettered any, but rather came to worse, 27having heard about Jesus, she came in the press behind and touched His garment. 28For she said, If I may but touch only His clothes, I will be cured. 29And instantly the fountain of her blood dried up. And she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. 30And knowing instantly within Himself that power had gone out of Him, Jesus turned Himself around in the press and said, Who touched My clothes? 31And His disciples said to Him, You see the crowd pressing on You, and do You say, Who touched Me? 32And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done in her, came and fell down before Him and told Him all the truth. 34And He said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be whole from your plague.

 43And a woman who had a flow of blood twelve years (who had spent all her living on physicians, and could not be healed by any) 44came behind Him and touched the border of His garment. And instantly her flow of blood was staunched. 45And Jesus said, Who touched Me? And all having denied, Peter and those with Him said, Master, the crowd presses and jostles You, and You say, Who touched Me? 46And Jesus said, Someone has touched Me, for I know that power has gone out of Me. 47And seeing that she was not hidden, the woman came trembling. And falling down before Him, she declared to Him before all the people why she had touched Him, and how she was instantly healed. 48And He said to her, Daughter, be comforted. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

Insights
  • The woman with the issue of blood was considered to be unclean by OT. law, Leviticus 15:25, and she was to stay a certain distance away from others, and declare herself as unclean. Therefore it was of great risk for her to be out in a crowd of people, for the punishment was to be stoned to death.
  • Touching the hem of His garment, is what people believe to be the tassels on a prayer shawl, and though to be what scripture refers to as "healing in His wings", Malachi 4:2.
  • A faith lesson we can take away from this is that the woman was risking everything and she expecting her healing, she touched him in faith. For as Jesus followed Jairus many people were thronging Him the crowd, but not everyone who touched Jesus was healed.
  • It perhaps also took an effort for the woman to get to Jesus, we do not know of her struggle or level of endurance, but we do know that she was determined.
  • She could not be hidden: At times we want to receive our miracle in private. (We need to tell others what Jesus has done for us) and tell others of our testimony. We are healed by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony, Revelations 12:11.
  • All man's medical procedures can only aid the body back into health, for the body is fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14 and was made to heal itself. At best medical procedures, surgery, supplements, prescriptions, etc. only heal the physical body, they do not heal the soul. Only God's Word can heal the soul.
