John 4:46-53
46Then Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where He made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47When He heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and begged Him that He would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe. 49The nobleman said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies. 50Jesus said to him, Go, your son lives . And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him, and he went away. 51And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, Your son lives. 52Then he asked of them the hour when he began to get better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. 53So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, Your son lives. And he himself believed, and his whole house.

  • Jesus was back in Cana of Galilee, this was near His own city and only a few verses before Jesus had just testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country, thus He could do not many mighty works, Matthew 13:54 & Mark 6:1.
  • Yet a nobleman came to Jesus, this was a Gentile and most-likely a royal officer of king Herod the tetrarch. This man came to Jesus believing and begging Him to heal his son.
  • When the nobleman's request of imploring Jesus to come and heal his son was turned down, and Jesus simply spoke a Word, Go, your son lives. The father did not take offence, but believed the Word that Jesus spoke and his son was healed that very hour.
  • Both accounts in the Gospels when Jesus spoke of Great faith was among Gentile believers. I believe this is a similar case, whereas the nobleman came up and asked Jesus to go with him, he left believing the Word that Jesus spoke.
